Afternoon tea at Jo and James' wedding at Old Kent Barn

Well I just couldn't wait to blog some photos from Saturday's wedding at The Old Kent Barn.  The weather may have been horrid in the morning but it was due to brighten up and looked lovely and bright inside the barn, so fingers crossed they had a lovely day.  Jo is a photographer, so her attention to detail is high and she knew very clearly the look she wanted.  Afternoon tea was the order of the day and with her lace gowns (yes she had two different styles for the big day), she wanted soft and romantic flowers.  Their colour scheme was dusky pink, ivory and a small hint of blue to tie in with the gorgeous navy dresses the bridesmaids wore.

We decided on very "English" flowers with garden roses, ranunculus, peonies, sweet peas, freesias, muscari, veronica, astlbe, bouvardia, hydrangeas, lisianthus, scilla, astrantia, rosemary.....well you get the picture!

Jo's gorgeous fitted lace dress with sheer mesh shoulders demanded attention, and Jo wanted her flowers to do the same...big and blowsy and soft and textured was the order of the day.  We added a feather brooch to one of the peonies and a locket to the lace tie on the stems.  If only you could smell this bouquet via the photo...although I say it myself, it was yummy!

For the four adult bridesmaids, we followed the hand-tied natural look of bouquets but left any blue colouring out and made them much smaller.  We also wrapped them in lace to match the day.  For the Flower Girls, we dressed metal star wands with ranunculus and spray roses and added trailing ribbons...magic!

The boys wore textured buttonholes and we also provided corsages for Mums and Nans with details to match individual outfits.   Thank you bouquets in bags were also provided to match the rest of the flowers.

For the top table, Jo and James wanted a large central birdcage dressed both inside and out with flowers.  As they left the front of the table open for speeches etc, we then dressed it with a random mix of teapots, cups, vases, vintage books, pearls, hydrangea florets etc.  So pretty.

The guest tables were resplendent in navy bows to match the bridesmaids' dresses as provided by Tanya at www.bowschaircovers.co.uk.  We then added a range of vases, pots, jars, mini birdcages, teacups, teapots, milk jugs, vintage cake plates, books, pearls, hydrangea florets etc all filled with gorgeous soft flowers.

We added jars that Jo and her girls had designed and we had filled to the tableplan table, the card hamper table and the sweetie table, and then added James' teacups filled with flowers onto a memories table.

Finally, there was the cake....a fabulous five tier Wedgewood style cake (with red velvet, carrot, fruit and other yummy centres) made by Mama Feelgoods.  It really was a work of art and balanced beautifully on the raised cake stand (glad I wasn't having to arrange it).  We finished it with a compact and neat topper to compliment the wedding flowers.

It really was a wedding where attention to detail shone through...the staff at Old Kent Barn are so focussed on making everything perfect, the suppliers were all excellent (she says boastfully!) and we hope it was a perfect day for Jo and James.
