Going for Olympic Gold at Emma and Rob's wedding at Turkey Mill
As we're in the midst of Olympic fever, we thought we'd jump ahead of our backlog of lovely weddings to blog and share a few photos from the lovely Emma and Rob's wedding at Turkey Mill this week. Normally couples are dismayed to find their wedding falls on a major sporting event (football, Wimbledon, F1 etc), but not in Emma and Rob's case. They fully embraced the excitement around the Olympics and called their tables after recent Olympic games. They even added facts and figures on the back of the tablenames....we also liked the "oranges at half-time" feel to the place settings. (Although we hope the lottery ticket favours weren't a reference to getting hold of Olympic tickets!)
Emma and Rob are such a lovely couple...I know we say it a lot as we are so lucky with our couples, but it really is true. Our senior florist Jane had bumped into Emma in the bank in which she works after meeting her in the studio, and feels a particular affinity with her, as we all do here. Emma is just that kind of person and hence we wanted her lovely wedding day to be extra perfect. Emma and Rob's colour scheme was burnt orange, soft peach and gold (of course!). We chose calla lilies, oriental lilies, roses, gerberas, freesias and cymbidium orchids and added carthamus in for extra texture. Gold birch, gold bear grass and orange bear grass were added along with variegated ivy. Such a lovely fresh and bright colour scheme, perfect for a lovely sunny day (yes, even the weather wanted to be perfect for Emma and Rob's day).
Emma's dress was a gorgeous gown with a very fitted and detailed bodice and a full skirt. We've only seen it on the hanger so far, but it looked beautiful. As the skirt was full, we decided upon a full teardrop bouquet using all the flowers used elsewhere and with plenty of ivy and gold bear grass. It really was a lovely combination of colours and was going to look fabulous against Emma's dress. As Emma didn't want to throw her bouquet, we also provided a smaller hand-tied bouquet just for this purpose.
For her bridesmaids, we designed hand-tied bouquets of germinis and roses along with gold bear grass loops and sprigs and sprigs of variegated ivy. We tied the stems in peach ribbon and finished with gold pins.
For Rob, we used the Mango Calla Lily from Emma's bouquet along with the peach rose and backed it with ivy leaves and gold bear grass. The groomsmen then wore the peach rose with foliage. The additional male family members requiring buttonholes had ivory germinis with gold bear grass. For the ladies in the Grooms' party, we used freesias, spray roses and foliage along with detailing to match individual outfits (feathers and gold beads to match a black and gold outfit, ribbon and jewels etc). For the remainder of the female family members, we provided ivory germini corsages with freesias and soft foliage.
At Turkey Mill, Emma and Rob decided to get married in the Orangery and we therefore added mini martini vases to the celebrant table for the signing of the register. Each had an arrangement to match the flowers used elsewhere. We also added some oranges to the base of each of the baytrees (not photographed) to bring the orange theme through....appropriate being the orangery!
For the main reception, we designed large martini vase arrangements for each of the Olympic tables using roses, germinis, lilies, orchids, carthamus and foliage.
For the top table, we decided to follow the overall martini vase theme and provide three mini vases (one between Emma and Rob and one at each end). This kept the look more contemporary and in keeping with guest tables and yet ensured plenty of room for everyone to see the speeches, which I believe brought more than a tear to the eye of one or two special guests!
Emma and Rob really are classed as "friends" to the team here and hence we were so happy to hear that their day had been perfect and that they couldn't stop smiling from start to finish. We think their whole wedding was a Gold Medal Event and wish them all the very best for Rio and may other Olympics ahead!!! It's been so lovely to have been involved.
