Fabulous new photos of Karen and Iain's Ice Hotel Wedding

How exciting....Karen and Iain (and Karen's parents David and Trisha) have very kindly sent me some photos of the wedding at the gorgeous Ice Hotel.  It's so unique seeing a different Ice Hotel each year, and I think the chandelier in the Chapel is stunning along with all the ice sculptures. 

However, I'm sure everyone is more interested in the wedding photos....Karen looks absolutely beautiful...a real Ice Princess and I think she and Iain make a stunning couple.  What a lovely dress...you'd never guess that Karen was wearing thermals, boots and strategically placed hand warmers!!  Well how else can the girls keep warm in sub zero temperatures.

The flowers travelled extremely well (in the hold rather than in hand luggage) and we love the contrast of the red against the white and vice versa.

Karen and Iain are celebrating their wedding with a party this weekend, so they all get to wear their dresses and outfits again....I hope they have a fabulous time (minus the hand warmers!)  They even get to use their flowers again.

Karen and Iain's wedding at the Ice Hotel, Jukkasjarvi, Sweden

Being Arctic and Antarctic scientists, the natural choice for Karen and Iain's wedding had to be somewhere at either pole, and The Ice Hotel (being 200km North of the Arctic Circle) couldn't have been a more perfect choice.  Karen and Iain were married in the Ice Chapel and given the snowy surroundings, Karen wanted her flowers to be frosty, sparkly and contemporary.  Given the location and the difficulty in using fresh flowers in temperatures regularly at minus 15 degrees, we decided upon silk flowers.  The designs had to be suitable for packing in hand luggage and had to be able to withstand the demands of travel.  We think that Karen's flowers show that you don't have to compromise on the overall look and can have the flowers you want anywhere in the world.

Karen likes a very neat and compact ,contemporary look and hence we opted for hand-tied bouquets.  Karen chose red roses with plenty of sparkle (and pearls) to contrast with her white dress (it had to be white, rather than ivory so as not to look dull against the white snow) and chose white roses for her bridesmaid as a contrast to her dress.  For the flower girls, we decided simple, pretty white gerbera wands would work best and added crystals and a small transluscent butterfly to tie in with detailing on the dresses.

 

Buttonholes again had to be relatively simple and easy to carry, so we agreed upon a white rose for Iain with bear grass detail, and then used white gerberas for the remainder of the bridal party.  To differentiate between the male and female guests, we added sprigs of pearl to the gerberas.  For Mums, we used smaller spray roses, again with pearl and crystal detailing.

Having experienced the beauty of the Ice Hotel, we can't wait to see photos of Karen and Iain in this setting.  Karen's dress was beautiful and she will have looked gorgeous in any setting, but particularly lovely amidst the snow and fabulous ice sculptures in Sweden.  We only hope that BAA were flexible enough to allow the crystal pins we used in Karen's bouquet to pass as detailing rather than as weapons!!
